Founded in 1971, the Civil Engineering Department initially focused on structural engineering in its undergraduate and graduate programs. However, since 1982, the department has expanded its academic offerings to include a broader range of civil engineering fields. Today, the department boasts over 40 faculty members, 491 graduate students, and 439 undergraduate students. It offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs across nine disciplines: structural engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering, road and transportation engineering, transportation engineering, earthquake engineering, hydraulic structures engineering, and construction engineering and management.
